Golf Sharks
Jordan Karrh looks to capture a third NCAA DII golf championship with Dallas Baptist.
This student athlete spotlight is part of The NIL Report’s partnership with Lone Star NIL, the exclusive NIL opportunity for Texas-based student athletes.
Today we feature ambassador Jordan Karrh, a redshirt junior golfer for Dallas Baptist. They begin their quest for a third national title in four years today. Check out our interview with Jordan here.
We will be featuring their ambassadors in our newsletter and YouTube channel. If you would like to inquire about an NIL partnership with any of them, please email me at TheNILReport@gmail.com.
The frustration was at a near boiling point on a hot, sunny May day in Eureka, Missouri, as Jordan Karrh signed her final scorecard of the season.
An 81, nine-over par, had just cost the Dallas Baptist Patriots a round in last year’s national championship match against No. 3 Nova Southeastern.
“I was a little frustrated with myself but I had two girls behind me,” Karrh reflected about that performance. “It's kind of like everything about yourself goes out the window because you're like ‘oh my gosh’ my teammate is going to win.”
Faith DeLaGarza, Julia Garcia, and Eryn Garza all won their matches to help DBU win the title.
Now the Patriots—with four of five returning— are on a mission to go back to back in 2024.
Third Time a Charm Motivation
Over the years the accolades have poured in for Karrh:
WGCA First Team All-American (2023)
WGCA National Freshman of the Year (2022)
U.S. Women’s Amateur Qualifier (2021)
High School 3x All-State
Still, there is a tiny feeling of a lack of contribution to DBU’s national title teams. Karrh redshirted in 2021 and last year lost her match.
Despite those facts, she qualified for the U.S. Amateur right after her redshirt freshman campaign and finished tied for eighth in last year’s NCAA championships.
The motivation is clearly evident to win again now; and to have an even greater impact.
“Honestly, just taking it event by event.” Karrh answered when asked about the prospect of repeating.
The Patriots finished in second for three straight tournaments last year entering the NCAA championships. That included a defeat to West Texas A&M in the Lone Star Conference championship.
Karrh’s experience and leadership helped DBU regroup to defeat West Texas A&M in a sudden death playoff in the NCAA West Regional to advance to the national championship round.
This season, the Patriots have won all five tournaments including the Lone Star Conference title where Karrh shot one under.
“I'm just going to play my game.” Karrh told me earlier this season. “Every shot's a new opportunity and [I’ll] just focus on the shot at hand and see what I can do with it and not worry about the results.”
Developing an NIL Skill Set
There has not been too much publicity about NIL deals for Division II women’s golfers; however, Karrh seems to have broken that mold.
She has partnered with the following brands:
Thorlo Golf Socks
Liquid IV
Lonestar NIL
Clean Energy
She has landed these deals via the NIL marketplace Mogul and networking in Instagram DMs. Graduating with a finance degree, Karrh is now pursuing her masters in international business and it has been setting her up for NIL success.
“It's been helpful for me to advertise myself to companies making connections.” Karrh explained. “I had made connections before; finding companies and reaching out and basically marketing myself.”
She is passionate about marketing and graphic design. So much so that she interned in the DBU athletic office her first summer and now runs the DBU Golf Instagram account.
This has given her a competitive advantage it creating polished content. Her social media activations with these brands have been unique, creative and professional that catch the eye.
Swimming with Sharks
Something Karrh loves to do is travel; she gets that opportunity by playing golf and watching her brother play baseball.
And whenever there’s a beach involved, she goes scuba diving.
“I actually am an advanced scuba diver.” Karrh revealed. “I'm working on my next certification that allows you to go 180 feet deep so usually it's 60 ft is the max.”
The goal?
Dive with her favorite animal: sharks.
“There [are] a lot of cool fish down there and sea turtles and whatnot [but] my favorite animal are sharks so like that's all I want to do is swim with the sharks” Karrh said.
That’s the goal—even if she doesn’t know how her parents would feel about it.
A Yard Book of Bible Verses
The DBU athletics motto is ‘Champions for Christ’ and Karrh writes down specific Bible verses in her yard book prior to tournaments to help her stay calm and focused.
“I write a note before every golf tournament and put it in my yard book,” Karrh shared. “I usually choose a new verse every week depending on how I'm feeling.”
Those words as she walks 16 or 17 miles in a round may be even more useful as her Thorlo Golf socks. It serves as a reminder that all of Karrh’s skills are gifts from God and for her to a) use them to the best of her ability and b) share the word when able.
“It's just a new opportunity every week to be able to share your faith and what you stand for, which is honestly really cool,” Karrh said.
Starting today, the mission is clear: share the word, win a third national championship and celebrate by swimming with a Great White Shark!
